The Men – Electric

The Men have debuted a new song from their upcoming album, New Moon, titled ‘Electric.’ The Brooklyn-based punk rock outfit will be releasing the album on March 5 via Sacred Bones.

Bleached – Next Stop

It’s been awhile since I’ve heard anything new from Bleached! ‘Next Stop’ is the extremely sunny new number from garage-punk sister-duo, Jennifer and Jessie Clavin. Fans of Best Coast should check this out right away.

Bayou – Cherry Cola

Bayou, a new London-based producer, dropped an absolute gem today called ‘Cherry Cola’. There’s echoes of everything from Jai Paul to The Weeknd to S O H N on this very smooth and sultry pop track. Seriously diggin’ this one.

Willow Smith – Sugar and Spice

Willow Smith, 12-year old daughter of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, has sampled Radiohead on her new track ‘Sugar and Spice’ and surprisingly it’s worth a listen. She’s samples King of Limbs standout ‘Codex’, and to be honest it’s pretty much that the tune itself with Smith’s angst-ridden lyrics over it.

Album Stream: Christopher Owens – Lysandre

I was gutted when I heard Girls split as a band, but I was consoled in the knowledge that their frontman Christopher Owens was intending on releasing a solo album. For some time now, Owens has been one of my favourite songwriters around. His own life story could fill a book or two but his writing style has always remained unpretentious. On Lysandre, Owens writing at times becomes even more personal than it did on previous releases with Girls. The jury is still out on the flute as a key instrument though.
Lysandre is released January 15th. Stream it here.

David Bowie – Where Are We Now?

It’s David Bowie’s 66th birthday today, and as a present to us he released his first piece of new material in over a decade. I’m sure just about everyone has heard it by now, but what do you all think of Where Are We Now? I love it.
The Next Day, his 30th studio recording, is out in March 11. I am counting down the days.

Iceage – Coalition

Copenhagen post-punk outfit Iceage dropped a new track today called ‘Coalition’, it’s the first single taken from their new album, the excellently named, You’re Nothing. The album will be out February 19 via Matador Records, and my first impressions of ‘Coalition’ are that it’s brilliant.
‘Coalition’ sounds a lot more focused than anything I previously heard on Iceage’s debut, the chaotic New Brigade. That’s not to say they’ve lost any of their ferocity, they just seem to have toned the noise down a little. There’s still those familiar vocals, which sound like Joe Strummer, Pete Doherty and Joey Ramone all shouting into the one microphone. There’s also plenty of distorted guitars. It’s just a great new track.

Devendra Banhart – Für Hildegard von Bingen

One of folk musics most colourful characters, Devendra Banhart is set to release his eight studio album Mala on March 8. Below is the albums artwork, which Devendra paint himself. He also shared a new track called ‘Für Hildegard von Bingen’ via Pitchfork which I am happy to say is really quite good.
