Here’s a brand new track from Austin’s Pure X, taken from the groups forthcoming new LP Crawling Up the Stairs, the follow-up to 2011’s Pleasure. I’ve been a fan of Pure X ever since I heard ‘Easy’ back in 2009 and their new track ‘Things In My Head’ hasn’t disappointed.
New York dance-punk outfit !!! drop their excellently titled new LP THR!!!ER on April 30th. Today the band shared ‘Slyd’, the albums first single and it’s without doubt one of the funkiest dance tracks they’ve released to date. We’re going to be hearing this one a lot over the year!
THR!!!ER drops April 30 through Warp Records, and you can pre-order it through Bleep.
On April 9 Philadelphia singer-songwriter Kurt Vile will release Wakin on a Pretty Daze, his fifth full-length LP and the follow up to 2011’s Smoke Ring For My Halo. ‘Wakin on a Pretty Day,’ the albums gorgeously chilled out opener, is now available to stream. The track clocks-in at just under ten minutes in length, but in no way does it drag out. Instead, it seems to just float along, effortlessly on some breezy warm vibes and smooth, laid back vocals. It actually feels a lot shorter than it is. Throughout the song there’s some excellent guitar playing but keep an ear out for the badass solo towards the end.
On April 9, The Postal Service will release the 10th Anniversary Edition of Give Up, via Sub Pop. The album will feature previously unheard tracks ‘Turn Around’ and ‘A Tattered Line of String’ which the duo have just shared. ‘A Tattered Line of String’ is an excellent track. It’s extremely upbeat, so I can see why it didn’t really fit in with the original Give Up recordings. It’s great to hear Jenny Lewis and Ben Gibbard vocals sounding so good.
With the release of Youth Lagoon‘s sophomore LP Wondrous Bughouse just around the corner, Trevor Powers has just shared his new single ‘Mute’, quite possibly the strongest Youth Lagoon track to date. It’s not long since he released the wonderful ‘Dropla’, and ‘Mute’ is another clear reason as to why Wondrous Bughouse is one of 2013’s most eagerly awaited albums. Clearly stepping in a brighter direction, ‘Mute’ is packed with multi-layered synths, hazy guitars and keyboards, and also some of Power’s most anthemic vocals to date. Simply outstanding.
HAIM are back with another outstanding new track, ‘Falling’. The California sisters previously performed this song live for BBC Radio 1 back in January and now they’ve officially released it as their third single. ‘Falling’ contains just about everything thats made HAIM one of my favourite new bands. Killer hooks, gorgeous pop melodies, harmonies so catchy you can’t help singing along and another impressively funky bassline. They drop their debut LP later this year and I’ve got massive hopes for it.
Long Beach, California trio Pageants, have a pretty solid 7″ single out at the minute featuring two tracks, ‘Musings Of The Tide’ and ‘August Moon’. If lo-fi garage rock is your thing, then you should definitely give both tracks a listen. Pageants are fronted by former Avi Buffalo Rebecca Coleman.
Justin Timberlake has shared the second new track from his upcoming album, The 20/20 Experience. ‘Mirrors’ is an eight-minute long epic that draws comparisons to early Timberlake hits like ‘Cry Me A River’. The final three minutes sound particularly excellent.
The 20/20 Experience drops March 19 on RCA Records.
