Introducing: Rivers and Crows

I’ve been meaning to introduce you all to the wonderful Rivers and Crows for quite sometime now, but I just never got around to it. Rivers and Crows are a Galway-based duo, composed of Stephanie Swanton and my friend Emma Lohan.

They have a wonderful six-song EP available to stream on their SoundCloud. It contains some of the most beautifully haunting recordings I have heard in quite some time. The stunning Black Atlantic, for me, is their most endearing track. Give it a listen, you won’t be disappointed.

They plan on releasing more new music later this year. Keep an ear out for it.

AlunaGeorge – Attracting Flies

AlunaGeorge premiered their excellent new single Attracting Flies this evening on Zane Lowes Radio 1 slot. The track is taken from the London duo’s forthcoming debut album Body Music, which drops on July 1. Attracting Flies has just about everything that makes AlunaGeorge so enjoyable – a bouncy beat, some bright synths and catchy hooks. George Reid’s production is typically polished and Aluna Francis’ sugar sweet vocals sound perfect.

The Attracting Flies single is out March 10, and it contains a remix by Baauer.

The Black and White Years – Just Like Old Times

Austin’s The Black and White Years return with a really great new single, taken from their forthcoming new LP which is due later this Spring. Just Like Old Times features the gorgeous vocals of frontman Scott Butler’s wife Adrienne and it’s a thoroughly magic track. Apparently, back in 2011, Butler asked Adrienne to sing on a rough demo without even knowing if she could sing. Cool huh?

They’ll release their new LP through Modern Outsider Records.

JAWS – Friend Like You

Birmingham four-piece JAWS are back with their new single Friend Like You, another catchy number taken from their forthcoming Milkshake EP, due April 22. Friend Like You is at times irresistibly breezy, and the guitars just shimmer throughout. Its got me pretty excited for their EP.

If SoundCloud is still down, listen to the track here.

GEMS – Pegasus

Washington, D.C-based duo GEMS, one of my favourite new bands to emerge in 2012, are back with another absolute dream of a track called Pegasus. It’s a slow and smooth number that should appeal to fans of Beach House and The xx. They plan on dropping their debut LP sometime this year, which has me pretty stoked.

If SoundCloud is giving bother, listen to the track here.
