Har Mar Superstar has returned with the finest song of his career Lady, You Shot Me. Evoking artists like Sam Cooke and Motown to perfection it’s an absolutely fantastic tune, and easily one of the best releases of 2013. The track will feature on Har Mar’s first album in four years, Bye Bye 17, set to be released through Julian Casablancas’ label, Cult Records, on May 6. Seriously guys, this is fucking brilliant!
Brooklyn’s Salt Cathedral (formerly Il Abanico) have an excellent track out called Take Me To The Sea, that’s well worth checking out if you’re fond of skittering guitars and sweet vocals. Juliana Ronderos’ vocals remind me of Kate Sproule of Mt. Wolf and Elly Jackson of La Roux and the instrumentals on this track are quite similar to some of Foals earlier work.
Astronauts, etc. recently announced his debut LP will be released this August, and has shared a brand new track from it called Coldboy. Coldboy is another tenderly blissed out release by Anthony Ferraro, who put out one of my favourite EP’s of 2012 with Supermelodic Pulp. Ferraro’s delicate falsetto and gently pulsating beats combine perfectly creating a really laid back and extremely pretty track.
Flatbush ZOMBiES and The Underachievers hook up for an aggressive new track called No Religion. The Underachievers and Flatbush Zombies are about to kick off a tour together supporting Joey Bada$$, and I believe all three acts are at SXSW this week. No Religion is a hard hitting track with some really ferocious bars spitted out by each MC. “Stop trying to be Tupac, try and be better.”
San Francisco-based producer oOoOO resurfaced yesterday with a brand new track called Forlorn Dub. The track is extremely minimal and slightly creepy, accompanied by some equally spooky visuals and ghost-like warped vocals. Not much else is known about the track or whether it will get an official release, but this is the first piece of new material from oOoOO since last year and it’s welcomed.
Bristol producer Hyetal dropped his new track Northwest Passage this week, it features Gwilym Gold on vocals. After signing with True Panther Sounds last year, Hyetal plans on dropping an album with the label on May 20.
Big K.R.I.T. dropped a video yesterday for a new track called R.E.M. that features an excellent sample of James Blake’s The Wilhelm Scream. The track is taken from his upcoming mixtape King Remebered In Time, and it’s another very smooth cut from the Mississippi rapper.
WHOA is the latest single to drop from Earl Sweatshirt’s eagerly awaited debut LP, Doris. The track was produced by fellow OFWGKTA member Tyler, The Creator who also features on the track. Personally, I’m beyond stoked for this release. I’m a massive Earl Sweatshirt fan and I’ve been playing Chum as well as Earl a lot lately. The video for WHOA features the rest of OFWGKTA and finds Earl living in a run-down trailer with a 50-something-year-old ballerina. Though it still doesn’t have a release date, Doris is easily one of the most anticipated releases of 2013.
I Would Die To Be is the irresistibly fun and catchy new release from Andrew Marr’s indie-pop outfit, Ski Lodge. This is a really fresh sounding release, reminding me of bands like Beach Fossils and Oregon Bike Trails. Everything about this track I’m enjoying, the uplifting hooks, the bouncy jangly guitars and Marr’s vocal delivery. Catchy as hell.
Four Tet, who recently dropped an entire album’s worth of material for free, has just shared another new track entitled For These Times. For These Times opens with some pretty heavy bass, before Kieren Hebden brings in some edgy vocal samples and a pretty smoldering beat.
