The album is the much-anticipated follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2014 self-titled debut album. Today, they’ve released the video for the first single In Undertow. Analog visual feedback and moon-man cameos fill the video singer Molly Rankin describes as “aquacosmic psych meets public access TV.” Rankin says, “I’m aware of my own drowning fixation and fascinated by that bizarre lunar-tidal relationship. We’ve already filled our water video quota. Space is a trippier ocean.”
Across its 10 tracks and 33 minutes the Toronto-based group dive back into the deep-end of reckless romance and altered dates. Ice cream truck jangle collides with prismatic noise pop while Molly Rankin’s wit is refracted through crystalline surf counterpoint. Through thoughtful consideration in basement and abroad, Alvvays has renewed its Scot-pop vows with a powerful new collection of manic emotional collage.
