San Francisco’s Jay Som, the solo project of singer-songwriter Melina Duterte, is set to release her new album Everybody Works on March 10 via Polyvinyl Records.
The forthcoming release comes on the back of a successful 2016 that saw Jay Som reissue her debut album Turn Into, and serve as the opening act on a tour featuring Mitski and Japanese Breakfast.
On her first proper album as Jay Som, Melina Duterte, 22, solidifies her rep as a self-made force of sonic splendor and emotional might. If last year’s aptly named Turn Into compilation showcased a fuzz-loving artist in flux—chronicling her mission to master bedroom recording—then the rising Oakland star’s latest, Everybody Works, is the LP equivalent of mission accomplished.
Following the release of the album’s first single The Bus Song, this week Jay Som returns with the distorted 1 Billion Dogs.
